Ukraine to Receive Sea King Helicopters from Germany
The Sikorsky Sea King helicopters promised by Germany may arrive in Ukraine as early as April this year.
German Ministry of Defense spokesperson Arno Kollatz stated this during a briefing on Wednesday, as reported by a Ukrinform correspondent.
“Regarding the Sea King, I can confirm that we have agreed with Ukraine to transfer 6 Sea King helicopters. This will be possible approximately from April,” the spokesperson said.
He assured that this would not diminish the combat capability of the Bundeswehr, which plans to gradually replace this type of helicopter with another – the Sea Lion. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian side during the consultations expressed interest in the Sea King model. In addition to the machines themselves, spare parts and other items will be transferred, and training will be conducted.
As reported, the German Minister of Defense, Boris Pistorius, following the results of the 18th meeting of the Defense Contact Group for Ukraine (Ramstein), announced plans to provide Ukraine with six multi-purpose helicopters Sea King Mk41 along with components and spare parts.
“The Sea King is a proven and powerful helicopter that will assist the Ukrainians in many areas: from reconnaissance over the Black Sea to the transportation of soldiers. This will be the first German delivery of this type,” Pistorius said.
